Many people in the Durham area with Diabetes know Noreen Kingston (Diabetes Specialist Nurse) and Janet Turner (Diabetes Dietitian), who have both been based in the University Hospital in Durham.
These ladies are retiring shortly, and to mark the occasion invited as many people as possible to join them on a walk of approximately 6 miles in and around Durham . Around 27 people participated in the event being a mixture of hospital staff colleagues, family, friends and patients.
The walk started from the Market Square in Durham at 11.30 am. It extended as far as the Brassside pond near Newton Hall and finishing at the Court Inn in Durham, who provided soup and a sandwich for all participants. The proprietor of the Court Inn kindly donated one £1 per head to Durham Voluntary Group of Diabetes in support of local diabetes initiatives.
A raffle took place after the walk and was well supported.
Altogether the event raised about £350 .
